TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — B&W Foods, the family-owned and operated company behind Piggly Wiggly West Alabama, is partnering with Buffalo Rock Company to host “Dew it LOCAL,” a community event marking the grand opening of its newest store in Tuscaloosa’s Five Points neighborhood. The event will highlight local businesses and partnerships that support the West Alabama community.
Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., “Dew it LOCAL” will take place at Piggly Wiggly Five Points, located at 4205 University Blvd. East. The community is invited to attend the official ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., hosted in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, and stay for an afternoon of customer appreciation activities featuring free product samples, prizes, giveaways and special promotions throughout the store.
Presented in partnership with Buffalo Rock and Mountain Dew, “Dew it LOCAL” will bring together local and national vendors and community partners to highlight the importance of supporting locally owned businesses. Participating vendors will offer product demonstrations, samples and promotional activities, giving customers an opportunity to discover new products and connect with the businesses behind them. A full list of participating vendors will be announced throughout the week on Piggly Wiggly Tuscaloosa County’s social media pages.
“This store represents much more than another Piggly Wiggly location. It’s an investment in the Five Points community and the people who call this neighborhood home,” said Jay Welborn, co-owner of B&W Foods. “We want this store to be a place where our neighbors feel welcome, where local businesses can connect with customers and where partnerships continue to grow. Buffalo Rock, a longtime Piggly Wiggly partner and locally headquartered beverage company, will play a central role in the event, featuring Mountain Dew and Pepsi products, sampling opportunities and customer giveaways.
The event builds on the success of last year’s “Dew it LOCAL” event at Piggly Wiggly’s Highway 69 South location, which featured more than 20 local and national vendor partners and thousands of dollars in customer giveaways.
This year’s event also marks a milestone for Piggly Wiggly West Alabama following the opening of its Five Points location in September. The new store features a full-service bakery, deli and floral department, along with a specialty meat case offering custom and specialty cuts.
For Welborn, the grand opening is an opportunity to recognize the community’s support while reinforcing the company’s commitment to building lasting relationships with local businesses and residents.
