TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — B&W Foods, the family-owned and operated company behind Piggly Wiggly West Alabama, has officially opened its new Piggly Wiggly location in Tuscaloosa’s Five Points.
The new location reflects B&W Foods’ continued investment in the communities it serves, bringing a full-service neighborhood grocery store to Five Points with expanded fresh offerings and services for customers.
“This has always been about more than opening another Piggly Wiggly,” said Jay Welborn, co-owner of B&W Foods. “Five Points has a long history as a place where people in this community shop, gather and see familiar faces. We wanted to bring that neighborhood grocery store back while also giving our customers more of the fresh, full-service options they’ve been asking for. We’re incredibly thankful for the support this community has shown our family and our stores, and we’re proud to be part of the next chapter at Five Points.”
The new store marks B&W Foods’ sixth Piggly Wiggly location in Tuscaloosa County and eighth overall. The company also operates Piggly Wiggly stores in Haleyville and Phil Campbell.
The Five Points location introduces several new offerings for Piggly Wiggly West Alabama, including its first full-service bakery, deli and floral departments in Tuscaloosa. The store also features a specialty meat case with custom and specialty cuts from Piggly Wiggly butchers, along with fresh produce, grocery staples and other everyday essentials.
Tuscaloosa Drug Company will also operate an independent pharmacy inside the Five Points store. The locally owned pharmacy, which has served the Five Points community for more than a decade, is preparing its new space and will open soon. An official opening date for the pharmacy will be announced separately.
The partnership allows Tuscaloosa Drug Company to remain in the Five Points community while bringing grocery and pharmacy services together under one roof.
The Five Points opening continues B&W Foods’ more than 25-year history of serving communities across West Alabama. With the addition of the new store, the family-owned company continues its focus on investing in the communities it serves while providing customers with locally operated neighborhood grocery stores.
