TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — B&W Foods announced plans to open a new Piggly Wiggly in Five Points, bringing renewed investment to a longtime grocery location in one of Tuscaloosa’s most established retail corridors.
The new store will mark the company’s sixth location in Tuscaloosa County and eighth overall, continuing the growth of B&W Foods, the family-owned operator behind Piggly Wiggly West Alabama stores.
More than simply opening another grocery store, the project reflects a commitment to restoring a trusted neighborhood shopping destination while expanding fresh, full-service offerings for customers in the Tuscaloosa area. The Five Points location will feature Piggly Wiggly’s first full-service bakery, deli and floral departments in Tuscaloosa, alongside a specialty meat case offering custom and specialty cuts from Piggly Wiggly butchers.
“This project is about more than opening another store,” said Jay Welborn, co-owner of B&W Foods. “Five Points has been an important part of this community for a long time, and we feel a real responsibility to bring it back the right way. As a family-owned business, we take pride in investing locally and creating a store our customers can count on for fresh food, friendly service and the dependable shopping experience they expect every day.”
While continuing to grow across West Alabama, Piggly Wiggly has remained focused on the values that have defined the company for more than 25 years: being a local business built around its people, its customers, and the communities it serves.
“Our stores have always been about more than just groceries,” Welborn said. “They’re about relationships. We’re proud to continue that tradition in Five Points and grateful for the support that has allowed us to grow while staying true to who we are.”
The store is currently slated to open in Fall 2026. Additional details regarding the opening timeline will be announced in the coming months.
